Julie Peasgood and East Coast Pictures search for new local authors.
Cleethorpes born actress Julie Peasgood and TV Producer Julia Thompson are teaming up in the search for local amateur authors for a brand new programme for TV and online, called ‘Write On.’
Julie Peasgood, who drew sell out audiences at this year’s Grimsby Auditorium pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, says,
“I was driving along the motorway enjoying listening to an audio book, when I thought how lovely it could be to sit at home and watch someone read a story on TV.”
Like a ‘Jackanory for grown ups,’ each episode will feature Julie or well known guest presenters, reading the story, filmed on location in the local area.
Julia Thompson, Director of East Coast Pictures says,
‘Our area has some fantastic and inspirational locations, from country houses to the beach, shops or even just a normal front room. We’ll choose a location to bring the writer’s story to life. All we need now are some fantastic stories.’
The pair met during Julie’s adventurous time rehearsing and appearing in the pantomime and the idea was hatched. Julie, who has appeared in TV dramas such as Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Brookside says, ‘There are some fantastic local writers, some aspire to write professionally, others write for fun, or might just have a story that’s already written, just looking for an audience. We’d love to see it and for the shortlisted five, we’ll bring them to life on screen.’
Julia, who has produced at ITV and Simon Cowell’s SYCO, says, ‘Julie and I started talking about television, particularly how viewers would love to watch good quality local programmes online and on the new local TV channels, and so the idea was hatched. Its going to be great seeing new stories brought to the screen and maybe launch a new author’s career’
